Ever since he lost his bid to become the next President in 2000, Al Gore has quietly become the celebrity poster-boy of the environmental movement. His controversial documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, has brought the issue of global warming to the political limelight. The ensuing craze for hybrid cars, such as Toyota’s Prius and Honda’s Civic, as well as the movement towards more ecologically sustainable development and alternate energy sources has certainly been something at which we can marvel. But are people actually doing anything that will start reducing pollution in the environment? One company, Piaggio, is taking the whole thing to a new level: they say that their new Vespa Scooter Line will soon offer a new product that will get up to 170 mpg. Is this even possible? Kudos to Piaggio if this is true; you have truly taken the initiative and acted in a progressive way. Compare that with Gore, who-though he certainly talks a big game-lives in a house that uses 20X as much electricity as the average American household.
